Requirements for Cable Accessories

Cable accessories require that, first of all, the core connection is better, the contact resistance should be small and stable, can withstand the impact of fault current, the joint resistance in operation is not greater than 1.2 times of the resistance of the cable core itself. The second is the insulation performance, the compression strength of the insulation accessories should not be lower than the cable itself, the dielectric loss should meet the corresponding national standards and manufacturer requirements; 

The outdoor part should also consider the safe operation under harsh climate conditions, and the length of the outer insulation should be determined according to the three-level pollution in the standard of the Ministry of Power, while the distance to the ground and the distance between phases of the exposed conductive part should meet the corresponding requirements. As for medium and low voltage cable accessories, XLPE insulated cable accessories are mostly dry insulated structures, and the main function of sealing is to prevent moisture and conductive media in the operating environment from dipping into the insulation, causing branch discharge and other hazards. 

For ultra-high voltage cables, such as 110kV and above voltage grade XLPE insulated cables, seal not only has the above role, but also plays a key role in preventing the leakage of oil filled inside the accessories. The third is good mechanical strength, accessories in the installation and operation state to be subjected to a lot of external forces, such as artificial internal force, electric power, especially over 110kV voltage grade cable accessories, cable itself retraction, elastic force, etc., also put forward higher requirements for the accessories themselves.

The main factors affecting the quality of cable accessories include electrical insulation performance, thermal performance (anti-aging performance, heat dissipation performance), accessory structure, installation process and environment.
