The basics of heat shrinkable tubes

2023-03-14
Heat shrinkable tube is not an important device in circuit design, but it is responsible for protecting the circuit and important devices in the circuit. But only according to the appropriate size in the selection of heat shrink tube, in order to maximize the protection of the circuit.

1. Inside diameter

We know that the cross section of the heat shrinkable tube is a cylindrical tube, the inner diameter is the size of the diameter of the tube wall, that is, the distance between the inner wall, we usually use the letter Phi, because Phi is used to mark the diameter on the engineering, and then followed by a number, indicating the value of the diameter, the default unit does not write the words are MM mm, such as Phi 6.

2. Wall thickness

The wall thickness refers to the thickness of the tube wall, and the inner diameter reflects the size of the heat shrink tube. What does the wall thickness refer to? Intuitively speaking, it is the thickness of a thing, so the thickness affects what things, we know that the role of heat shrinkable tube is insulation protection, then the thickness of the influence is the size of insulation protection, we all know that thick clothes, then cold insulation and warm effect is large, thin clothes cold resistance ability is small, so the wall thickness of heat shrinkable tube affects its protection ability, So generally speaking, the thicker the heat shrink tube, the better its mechanical protection ability.

3. Shrinkage rate

Shrinkage tube heating will shrink, and only shrinkage things will have this parameter, shrinkage rate sometimes also called heat shrinkage rate, heat shrinkage ratio and so on, it refers to the diameter of the heat shrinkable tube at room temperature, such as Φ6, after heating shrinkable diameter such as Φ3, then we say shrinkage rate is the ratio of the inner diameter of the heat shrinkable tube before contraction and after contraction, That is to say, 6/3=2/1, and the 2:1 is the shrinkage rate of the casing. The shrinkage rate reflects the shrinkage capacity of the heat shrink casing. The higher the shrinkage rate, the finer the heat shrink casing will be after complete shrinkage. If the heat shrink tube is Phi 6 before it shrinks, Phi 2 after it shrinks, and it's only two millimeters in size, then it shrinks 6:2, or 3:1.

4. Initial shrinkage temperature

It is the temperature at which the heat shrink tube begins to shrink. We take the heat shrink tube and start heating. When the heat shrink tube starts a reaction, the temperature when there is shrinkage reaction just starts. Our general PE heat shrinkable tube starts shrinking temperature at 84℃, and then the shrinkage reaction begins.
