PILC cable, its impregnation agent viscosity is high, in the cable operating temperature range is not easy to flow, but at the impregnation temperature has a low viscosity, can ensure good impregnation. Viscous impregnating agent is generally composed of bright oil and rosin mixture (bright oil accounts for about 65 ~ 70%, rosin accounts for about 30 ~ 35%). Many countries use synthetic resins (such as polyisobutylene) instead of rosin, mixed with bright oil into low-voltage cable impregnation agent.

PILC cable can be divided into insulation type (integrated package type) and phase shielding type (lead package type) according to its structure.With insulation cable is each conductive wire heart wrapped a certain thickness of paper insulation (phase insulation) layer, and then three insulating wire heart stranded together and then a layer of insulation layer (with insulation), its outer share a metal sheath; Phase - separated shielded cable means that the core of each insulated wire is wrapped around the shield and extruded with lead sleeve. With insulating material, but the direction of the electric field strength in the insulating layer is not perpendicular to the paper surface, there is a component along the paper surface, so it is generally only used for cables below 10 kV. The direction of the electric field strength is perpendicular to the paper surface in the phase-separated shielding insulation, which is mostly used for cables above 10 kV.

The impregnating agent of PILC cable is very viscous, but it still has some fluidity. When the laying drop is large, the upper end of the cable forms a gap due to the flow of the impregnator, and the breakdown strength decreases, while the lower end of the impregnator deposition, the pressure increases, can expand the cable sheath. Therefore, its laying drop is limited, generally not more than 30 meters.

Drip Dry Paper Insulated Power Cable:

A kind of PILC cable, that is, after the adhesive impregnated cable is impregnated, a drop drying process is added, so that the impregnated agent between the adhesive impregnated paper is reduced by 70%, and the impregnated agent in the paper is reduced by 30%, so as to eliminate the defects caused by the flow of the impregnated agent when the adhesive impregnated paper insulation cable is laid at high drop.

However, the resistance strength of the insulation is reduced because the content of the impregnator is reduced. For example, the voltage strength of a power cable with the same insulation thickness of drip-dry paper insulation is 6 kV, while the voltage strength of a viscous impregnated paper cable is 10 kV. But the former can greatly improve the allowable laying drop.

Oil Filled Cable:

Air gaps in cables are eliminated by adding impregnators. When the temperature of the cable rises, the impregnator expands, the internal pressure of the cable increases, and the impregnator flows into the fuel tank; When the cable is cooled, the impregnation agent shrinks, the internal pressure of the cable decreases, and the impregnation agent in the oil supply tank flows into the cable, preventing the generation of air gap, so it can be used for 110 kV and above lines.

Its structure is divided into two categories, one is self-contained oil-filled cable), the impregnation agent is low viscosity mineral oil or dodecyl benzene, conductive wire heart hollow oil channel, impregnation agent can be timely through it into insulation or into the tank; 

Another kind is steel pipe oil-filled cable, impregnant is slightly higher viscosity polybutylene oil, conductive line heart is solid, three insulated wire heart together in seamless steel pipe, tube filled with high pressure (generally about 1.5 million mpa, 15 atmospheric pressure) of impregnant, as the space between steel pipe and cable oil supply, and connected to the oil supply system. It has excellent electrical properties and mechanical protection, but the oil consumption is large, the joint is more complex, not suitable for high drop laying.
