Low Voltage Heat Shrinkable Thin Wall Tubing is an insulated sleeve that shrinks to conform tightly to wires, cables or components when heated. Thin wall tubing has a smaller wall thickness, so it provides insulation without significantly increasing the diameter of what it covers.

Low voltage heat shrink tubing is rated for applications under 1,000 volts. It is often used for consumer electronics, automotive wiring, appliances, and telecommunications. Common materials include polyolefin, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and fluoropolymers like FEP or PTFE. Key attributes include wide temperature ranges (-55°C to 135°C typically), resistance to chemicals/abrasion, and flexible yet durable insulation. Shrink ratio is important for proper sizing - it indicates how much it decreases in size when heated, e.g. 2:1 shrinks to half its diameter.  

Benefits of low voltage heat shrinkable thin wall tubing include insulation, strain relief, sealing from moisture or chemicals, bundling/grouping of wires and color-coding for circuit identification. Low voltage tubing is easy to install with a heat gun and shrinks tight for a professional finish. Sizing is based on the gauge/diameter of the wire or cable, dimensions of the components and shrink ratio of the tubing. For the best results, the post-shrunk size should be slightly larger than the item it covers. Properly sized tubing stretches tight without damaging what's underneath when shrunk.


Common types are end caps, inline/butt splices, Y-joints, transition pieces (different beginning/end sizes), and pre-slit flat tubing for wrapping or bundling multiple wires. There are also heat-shrinkable wire markers, disconnects, terminals and cable ties. Limitations include insulation only, not providing strain relief (it remains flexible). Higher heat or voltage applications may require alternative insulation like PVC conduit or ceramic coatings. It can be difficult to remove once installed and may tear thin or fragile wires if not properly sized.
